Auto Upholstery Bay Area Seat and Convertible Top Repair of a 1938 Packard - Cooks Upholstery & Classic Restoration Rewood City 650-364.0923

On this project we are redoing the front seat plus fixing the trim around the Convertible top on this 1938 Packard

In US automotive history, the name “Packard” once stood for fine engineering, long life, great 12-cylinder luxury cars, early racing success and, in its last years, technical innovation. Clearly identified by their yoke-shaped radiators and fluted hoods, Packards projected an aura of prestige and excellence (especially in the years between the two World Wars) that was unmatched by any other make in North America.

In most of the years from World War 1 until its merger with Studebaker in 1954, a span of more than thirty years, Packard was America's only entirely independent auto company dedicated exclusively to the manufacture of the finest possible cars. For this reason, and also for its accomplishments in the design and production of aircraft engines, Packard was the only company in the United States whose work could be compared with that of England's Rolls-Royce organisation.

From 1899, when the first Packard car was completed, until the last one was made in 1958, the company produced 1,610,890 automobiles. Its largest production in one year was 109,518 in 1937, approached, but not equalled, by the best post-World War 2 year in 1948, in which 104,593 Packards were sold. Less famed was Packard's production of trucks, amounting to 43,484 units from 1908 to 1923.

Auto Upholstery Bay Area Replacing the Ferrari 355 Sticky Controls - Cooks Upholstery & Classic Restoration Rewood City 650-364.0923

In many of the older Ferraris, the plastic interior components suffer what’s commonly known as “sticky-gummy”. Just by looking at it you can tell that they don’t look right. When you touch them, they actually have a sticky/gummy feel to them, and regular cleaners won’t solve the problem. These would require complete removal and then send them out to be restored by a company that refinishes them, and re-prints all of the markings.

We are replacing the sticky controls with re-manufactured components.

Auto Upholstery Bay Area Car Upholstery Repair Tips - Cooks Upholstery & Classic Restoration Rewood City 650-364.0923

Car Upholstery Repair Tips

If the interior of your car is not looking like it's seen better days it may be time for some car upholstery repair. Whether it's a stain in your seat from a spilled drink or a foul odor from one of your pets, there are some simple and easy steps to get the inside of your car looking and smelling new again.
The first step is determining what type of material your car's upholstery is. In most cases it will either be: cloth, leather, vinyl, or velour. Each material has its benefits and drawbacks. For example, it's easier to clean up a soda spill on leather or vinyl, but fixing a puncture is easier with cloth or velour upholstery.
The next step is addressing the type of problem you are trying to fix. Some of the more common repairs include: mud stains, spills, cigarette burns, holes, pet stains, etc. And, make sure before you get started to remove all trash in the vehicle and vacuum it out.
Always try to clean up spills as soon as you can. The sooner you get to treating them, the less there is that the stain will be there for good. Use a cotton rag or paper towels to dab at the spill and try to get up as much as possible. Then take a towel, damp with warm water, and dab at the area some more. If that doesn't remove it, purchase some upholstery cleaner at your local hardware store.
To treat holes and punctures, it's best to either purchase a kit or have it repaired by a professional. Holes in the upholstery aren't as easy to fix and there is also a good chance you could do even more damage if you don't know what you are doing.
